Prof. Dr. Martina Schraudner

Science & Innovation

There is never just one future. We shape the future too.
Prof. Dr. Martina Schraudner

On innovation, research, and the future of science.

Prof. Dr. Martina Schraudner is from Nuremberg, studied biology in Munich — originally hoping to put transgenic plants in the field, until that became illegal in Germany — and is now professor of gender and diversity in technology and product development at the TU Berlin. From 2006 onwards she built up Fraunhofer's Center for Responsible Research and Innovation; her work shows, among other things, that medicines were long tested only on young men and that seatbelts were designed for standardised soldier bodies. She commutes between Berlin and Munich, has worked in Switzerland, France and the US — and reckons cancer won't really be beaten before 2050.
